About RAD

It's about the music.

Leon Hickey
Founder & President
Rhythm Acoustic Devices

In the 1980s, I was fully immersed in the craft of loudspeaker building, driven purely by curiosity and a love for sound. With a complete wood shop at my disposal and a preference for JBL components, those years were spent experimenting, learning, and building speakers for family and friends who were the first beneficiaries of my work, for better or worse. Along the way, I gained friendships that shaped my thinking, challenged my assumptions, and continue to inspire my approach to sound.

Today, it’s my pleasure to introduce you to the RAD brand of home audio speakers. I draw on those early experiences and the people I’ve met along the way, bringing that shared passion into every design.

By sourcing world-class components and pairing them with real wood veneered cabinets, high-end crossovers, and careful tuning, my goal is simple: to offer accurate, engaging sound and honest craftsmanship to music lovers across Canada.

At RAD, we believe that true audio excellence comes from care, not mass production. Each of our bookshelf speakers is hand-built in limited runs, ensuring every detail, from the wood finish to the sonic tuning, meets the highest standards.

By keeping production intentionally small, we can focus on quality, consistency, and innovation, delivering speakers that sound as exceptional as they look. Supporting our work means owning a piece of craftsmanship designed for audiophiles who value precision, warmth, and authenticity.

I’ve always believed that sound can’t be judged in a showroom or a moment, it needs time, space, and familiarity. That’s why RAD speakers are meant to be lived with in your own home. Take the time to listen and decide for yourself; if they don’t earn their place in your system within 30 days, you’re free to return them for a full refund.

RAD exists to make authentic audiophile performance attainable for people who simply love music.
